SEO Traffic Tips - How to Spring Clean Your Website by Terri Seymour

Here's some useful

SEO Tips on How to Spring Clean Your Website

. Spring is a wonderful time of year but it might not be so wonderful for our online business. The weather is getting nicer and people are spending more time outside, away from their computers. One way to get more people to come to your website is to do some spring cleaning and I don’t mean your house! Our websites can get stale and outdated if we do not clean them up periodically.

There are lots of things you can do to freshen up your site and bring new life and new customers to your online business.

1. Add a new section filled with resources, information and maybe even some special deals for your customers. Use relevant keywords to improve your ranking. For example: if you own a home decor business, offer decorating tips and advice. Show people how to decorate on a budget or how to redecorate with things they already own. By providing information and resources along with your products, you are giving people a reason to keep coming back. This is how you build trust with your visitors and get more sales.

2. Remove all dead links, outdated information and products. Nothing is worse than going to a site and finding links that don’t work or information and/or products that are no longer useable or helpful. Go through all the links on your site and freshen up the content to offer up to date information!

3. Give your homepage a face-lift by adding new graphics, text, etc. Redo your banner and give it some new life. Take out the old graphics and add some fresh new images. Research your keywords and revamp your text with some effective keywords. Write a new introduction to your site detailing all your new additions.

4. If you haven’t yet tried blogging, read up on blogging and zap some life into your site. Some free blogging sites are Blogger and WordPress. Blogging is a great way to improve your search engine ranking while expanding your network.

5. Update your product line. Add some fresh new products and offer the old products at clearance prices. Have a Spring Sale and liven up your sales! Keep those customers coming back for more!

6. Add a “What’s New” page so you can let everyone know about all your updates now and in the future. This feature could get more people to return to your site to see What’s New?

5 Things You MUST Check Before You Buy the New SEO Software or Trust a Google Expert

Here's a trick people fall for all the time. It's so common the really scuzzy people have a name for it - it's called "False Proof."

The one that has been chapping my behind is when a supposed search expert will say, "I'm number one out of 33 million results." And you think, really? 33 MILLION?

Then you get their software, ebook, or system, and you find out that even though you're also able to rank number one for a term that gets 33 million results, none of it sent you any sales, or leads - and really, not much traffic either.

Don't get me wrong - it's not that this ranking isn't an achievement for some people. It's just that it HAS to be put into perspective. If someone is telling you - hey, I'm kind of a newbie to search, and I figured out how to do this. Let me share my research with you - that's information to trust.

The same person claiming it makes them an expert? Not so much.

If you don't want to get hustled by this little trick, remember that proof has to be MEANINGFUL.

It's fine to profit from a JV deal with a friend or colleague, I'm not knocking it. I've done it and when I have, I've slept great, because I make a conscious effort to only promote the highest quality products from my peers.

So I think endorsements are okay.

What's NOT Okay is when the testimonials of friends are the Only testimonials a person has for their product.

What did their peers think?

What did their clients think?

What do people who didn't know them before they tried it think?

If a person selling you an SEO product or search consulting is a layperson, and they figured out how to get results better than the next guy, and they say so, that is completely above board.

But if they're claiming to be a guru or expert in any way, and they're using keyword rankings or number of links generated, or anything else to prove their results, make sure they stand up to closer scrutiny.

Here are some things to look for:

1- The number of results doesn't always tell you how comparatively difficult the keyword is to rank for. A good keyword difficulty check like the one at SEOmoz.org will help you figure this out.

2- If the keyword phrase is 4 or more words long, a monkey could probably rank for it under the right conditions.

3- Even if it is hard for a newbie to rank for, and the software tool/person will help you get to the next level of expertise, if the terms you would rank for are those that don't send any traffic, or won't help you build up to terms that will send traffic, it's a waste of time.

4- If just one keyword ranking is their claim to fame, they aren't an expert if they're saying they are, or that their tool is worth paying for, based on this, be wary.

You do NOT really know what you're doing with search until you have been able to maintain hundreds or thousands of rankings for a few years.

You can get to number one by cheating in the short term - until they catch you and ban your site.

Luck or cheating doesn't make you an expert.

5- If the number one or first page result they got is one of many, and passes all the difficulty and traffic tests - is the result they have in Google or Yahoo for their own site? It if it, and that's all the information they're selling, don't buy it. I'll tell you how to do that for free in a minute.

First let me explain one thing: it's not that it's a bad thing to get to number one using Ezine Articles or Hub Pages. It's that you don't control the ranking when it's not on your site.

It's that you don't need someone to teach you something fancy to get that ranking.

Anyone can get a popular site to rank at the top for an article they've contributed - there are free articles for how to do this around the Net. If I'm not mistaken, Chris Knight wrote about it last year on this blog.

That's not some coveted secret worth the price of a large pizza or a fancy dinner.

How do you do it? You use your keywords in the title of the article you're contributing, and make your article semantically relevant enough to out rank whatever listing is presently number one. It won't work with every keyword, but when it does, that's how it happens.

The real trick is getting that ranking to mean money for you. That ranking doesn't automatically mean they'll click the link to visit your site.

(How do you do make sure they do? That secret takes way more room than one article.)

So again, this Can be a good technique. But knowing that doesn't make you an expert.

Now, I won't sit here and say that every expert trying to get you to buy a search or traffic related product is full of it. There's a lot of good programs out there. But the instant you're being promised outlandish results with a minimum of effort, it's right that your BS radar should go off.

The second you're being peddled a quick fix that is meant to supersede or replace good knowledge, you have to ask yourself if what you're paying and the results you're getting are worth the risk.

It's not that there isn't good stuff out there - it's that you have to really look at whether what you're paying is going to yield results worth your investment.

There are a bunch of great experts and great sites that can help you get better search results in Google and Yahoo. I could name ten off the top of my head. Just remember, in order to see what's worth your money, scrutinize your expert, and investigate the promises of your favorite search tool.

You may be surprised at what you find.
Great product, no traffic? I'll teach you every web site promotion technique from search to social media, all that I've tested and used myself. No hype or unrealistic promises. Just real-world techniques that actually work. Come to http://freetraffictip.com/really to see video proof.

How To Get Improved Search Engine Rank Using Squidoo and SEO

If you know how to use Squidoo to achieve improved search engine rank of your web pages, then you have a tool at your disposal that can be just as powerful as using traditional search engine optimization, if not more so.

One important facet of your Squidoo lens is that it could be listed on Google, or any of the other search engines, for your major keywords, and you should not lose sight of any promotional techniques that provide you with free exposure on search engines. If you Blink your Squidoo lens, you can win every way. Not just with Blinklist, but you can have it listed on just about every social networking site you can think of, Technorati and Deli.cio.us included. Also Furl, Craigslist, Stumbleupon and any of the many others out there.

For those not totally aware of what Squidoo is, I don’t intend to go into the ethos of the site right here, other than to state that it can be used as a promotional tool as well as a being a virtual website. Your lens can also be given a Google PageRank. You can use your Squidoo lens in place of a minisite in order to promote yourself and your product, and improve your search engine listing. You can use it as a showcase for your products, your blogs or even your websites, and draw traffic to it and hence to those other online ventures you are involved in.
In order to use Squidoo as a promotional tool for your main website you have to know a lot about the topic of your site. It is not a tool to use to sell an affiliate product, for example, unless you are an authority on that product. However, if you have written a book on a certain aspect of SEO, and want to advertise it, then Squidoo is ideal for that. The reason is that you can give in order to earn. Hence, Squidoo is great for me, because I can provide visitors to my lens with useful information on SEO, while at the same time advertising my SEO site that offers my product. I then get visitors and a link from Squidoo, both of which are great for my search engine rank, and also listing position.

It might be possible just to advertise the product directly, but I prefer to provide information. That allows your visitors to become confident that know what you are talking about, and are not just a ‘fly by night’ that is trying to sell a product that you know nothing about. The objective of Squidoo is to provide useful information on topics to others interested in that topic. If they go to Squidoo and click on a category, they should be able to find all the info they are looking for.

They don’t want outright adverts, but if they find that you are providing good information, then they might want to visit your website. You give them the link to do so, and then they get more information. Part of that might be the offer to purchase your product that will possibly solve their problem. However, neither you nor they know that it will, so you provide them with a guarantee that if it doesn’t work for them, they get their money back. You have used Squidoo to persuade them that you know what you are talking about, that led them to your site and more information, and then to your product. They buy it, try it, and if it works fine. If not, they get refunded. In my book that is the proper way to conduct business, and you can use Squidoo to help you with that.
You can also optimize your lens for maximum search engine listing position, since your Squidoo lens should be based upon a single keyword or keyphrase to enable you to get a good listing. You can SEO a lens just as you can do a web page, and with the same effect. Free organic traffic from your listing position.
To achieve all that, sign up for Squidoo, follow their instructions and get your first lens up and running, and then use it to promote your regular website and improve its ranking. You must also make sure that your customers have an out if it doesn’t work for them. Squidoo provide lots of help in designing your first lens, but if you already have website then you should find it easy. Optimize your lens for the search engines and you are all set.
By combining your web page, lens and blog optimization, and cross-promoting each in an intelligent way, it is difficult to see how you could fail to get high search engine listings and improved search engine rank using Squidoo and SEO.

Top 10 Search Engine Optimization Strategies For Your Website!

Although the concept of search engine optimization can be somewhat complex, there are a number of basic search engine optimization techniques you can use to improve your organic search results. Keep the following in mind when trying to achieve top rankings for your website.

1. Meta Tags.

Meta tags are simple lines of code at the top of your web page programming that tell search engines about your page. Include the title tag, keyword stag, description tag, and robots tag on each page.

2. Create and update your sitemap.

Developing a site map is a simple way of giving search engines the information they need to crawl your entire website. There are plenty of free software packages on the web that can help you generate a sitemap. Once you create a sitemap, submit it to Google and Yahoo.

3. Ensure that all navigation is in HTML.

All too often, navigational items are in the form of java script. Even though navigation technically still works in this format, it’s not optimized. Create your navigation in HTML to enhance internal links throughout your website.

4. Check that all images include ALT text.

Your image’s alt text is spidered by search engines. If you’re not including your keywords in alt text, you’re missing out on a huge opportunity for improved search engine result placements. Label all of your images properly.

5. Use Flash content sparingly.

Content generated through java script or flash is a big no-no. Some webmasters like to use flash because of the presentation. If you must, use it sparingly, but only after your site has been properly optimized with basic search engine optimization in mind.

6. Make sure that your website code is clean.

Keep in mind when optimizing a web page crawlers are basically only looking at your source code. When programming your web pages, having W3C compliant code can make all the difference. Run your code through a W3C validator before promoting.

7. Place keywords in your page content.

Search engines scan your website and web pages for keywords. Shoot for a keyword density of between two and eight percent. Google likes your page to be at the lower end of this scale and Yahoo at the upper end.

8. Submit your website to search engine directories.

It’s always a good idea to let large search engine directories know that you’re out there. Submit your website URL to directories like Google, Yahoo, and DMOZ.

9. Build links to your website.

Consider building a link exchange program or create one-way links to your site using articles or forum posts. All major search engines value the importance of your website based on how many others websites are linking to it.

10. Learn the basics.

Learning to optimize your website for search engines takes time and patience. Start by applying basic search engine optimization principles. If you’re new to website optimization, or even a well seasoned veteran, begin by prioritizing which pages are most important to you and go from there. Soon you’ll find yourself moving up the rankings.

How to Use SEO or Search Engine Optimization for High Google Listings By Peter Nisbet (c) 2007

If you know how to use SEO to get a high listing in search
engines, or are an expert in search engine optimization for high
Google listings, then you need read no more of this article.
Your website obviously has at least one page in the top 10 of
Google, MSN and Yahoo, and you have as much traffic as you need
for your success.

However, if not, then you need some advice. You need to
understand the basics of search engine optimization.
Incidentally, what the basics are to you may not be basics to
others. Basics to some are the correct use of LSI (latent
semantic indexing), of internal linking strategies and of other
techniques designed to lead search engine spiders by the hand
and convince them that their site is the tops. Can you do that?

If not, then here are one or two tips. Good SEO is a lot more
than just having your page title in title tags and your heading
in H1 tags. It is more that just having the correct keyword
density – do you know what that is? The vast majority of people
don't have the slightest clue about keyword density or what it
means. Formulae said to relate to keyword density and the number
of words in the key phrase as a function of the number of times
the phrase should appear in a web page are mediaeval in internet
time.

Do you know what? Google doesn't give a toss about your
calculations. Google cares about the service you are providing
to Google customers and how relevant the content of your web
page is to their needs. To find that out, Google applies a
statistical mathematical equation based on statistical analysis
of semantics as related to the specific keyword being used by
the searcher, and the semantic content of your web page.

Google doesn't care if you have exactly 15 incidences of your
keyword every 500 words – in fact if you do, you have no chance
because that is now excessive. Keyword stuffing or keyword
spamming they call it! Yet people still write articles packed
full of keywords in the mistaken belief that it will be good for
them. Who is still telling them that?

So let's forget keyword density. It's old SEO and no longer
relates to Google's needs. Internal linking: now there's a new
thing to most people, even though it has been relevant for the
past few years. By intelligent use of internal linking you can
lead your friendly neighbourhood spider down any web you can
weave for it. And you will benefit greatly by doing so, if you
know where you should be leading it.

Internal linking strategy is a different concept entirely to an
external linking strategy involving one way or two way reciprocal
links back to your web page from that of another website. Most
people are involved in that, but also most don't know how to do
it properly, and therefore lose out. Let me give you a simple
example.

You have a website with a page rank of 4 for your home page.
Note that it is not your whole site that gets a Google PageRank,
as it is properly written, but each individual page in your site
is individually ranked. When you come across a website with a PR
of 4 or even 8, it is the page you are looking at that has that
PageRank. That will generally be the home page, and when you
agree to a reciprocal link, guess what! Your link will be placed
on a 'links page' in that site with a PR of zero. That's right,
a Google PageRank of zilch: and that's the benefit you will get.
Zilch!

If you place their link on your home page, or any other page
with a PR of greater than zero, you lose out. Even if your page
has a Google PageRank of only 1, Then You Lose Out! They get a
share of your PR of 1, and you get a share of their PR of zero!

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, and then tell me I don't
know what I am talking about as many have. Some of these many
are so-called internet gurus and SEO experts that fleece you by
promising you a Google Page 1 position for your site, when they
can't even get one for themselves.

If a site offers you a top 10 position, check out their
position by using their URL. If they were so good, wouldn't they
be in the top 10 for their URL? I would have thought so! But NO.

So, do what you can to understand what Search Engine
Optimization is. What it really is – not what some would want
you to believe what it is. Check out the source code of
successful sites and compare it to the unsuccessful sites and
try to spot differences. If you cannot, then it is the linking
strategies that make the difference. Whatever strategy you use,
however, make sure that you fully understand it and that you are
using it as it should be used. There are links and links – some
better than others. Some can give you positive results, and some
of your links can be very bad for you.

Do you know how to tell the difference? Most can't, and so are
led by what they read online. The problem is that since 'most
can't', most of what is written online is garbage. It is
difficult to spot the truth from the opinion. It is truth that
gets you a good Google or Yahoo listing, not opinion. The
problem is that more people believe opinion than truth since
they don't know what truth is, and most of what they read is
false opinion.

The best advice you can have is to check out the websites that
have succeeded and copy what they do. However, that is not as
easy as you think since the off-site linking strategy that you
cannot see is as important as the on-site SEO that you can see.
================================================================
If you want screenshots of a website that succeeds, the check
out Pete's site http://www.article-services.com that varies from
#1 and #4 on Google for the keyword 'article services', and then
find the screenshots and explanation of how he does it on
http://www.improved-search-engine-rank.com That is how to learn:
from successful sites.
